What we have achieved
The alliance involved in this project has succeeded in training many thousands of youth to lead and organize a continent-wide push for the values of the ACDEG. We want to keep up this work to convince political leaders to sign, ratify and implement the charter.
You can check the current ratification status on the map, which you can click on to see in more detail.
The project has already seen considerable success, as the ACDEG rises on the public agenda. Below, you will find some examples of what we have achieved in the push for democracy according to the African Governance Architecture.
Zimbabwe
After the presidential eviction in Zimbabwe in November 2017, the interim president initiated increased dialogue with civil society, namely project co-beneficiaries ActionAid Zimbabwe and SADC-CNGO, who collaborated with other partners in civil society to push for the ratification of ACDEG based on the results generated so far on the project.
Zimbabwe signed the ACDEG in march 2018, showing the value of a persistent civil society push.
Zambia
In another important arena, media, there has been a notable increase in journalists and media reporting on ACDEG and AGA during the first year of project implementation.
This comes as a result of a series of trainings for media professionals meant to familiarize these with issues of governance, elections, and democratic institutions.
ActionAid Zambia considers that more than 10,000 citizens have been reached with consistent messaging about ACDEG and AGA, and at the same time, this media strategy has led to increased political attention, notably by the Minister of Justice Mr. Give Lubinda.
